Starbucks come back with the seasonal product – Pumpkin Spice Latte
About the product:
Starbucks developed the Pumpkin Spice Latte in January 2003 in an attempt to expand on the success of winter seasonal drinks such as Peppermint Mocha and Eggnog Latte. After the developer’s tests, the customer’s selection for Pumpkin Spice Latte comes after the chocolate and caramel flavour. Sales of the drink exceeded all expectations and the product entered all American Starbucks stores during the year.
The company and customers came to recognize the Pumpkin Spice Latte as Starbuck’s most popular seasonal beverage and the beverage is known to have a distinctive aroma, which has since been branded into a range of articles, such as air fresheners and other foodstuffs, like tortilla chips, produced by companies other than Starbucks.
Ingredients of the product:
- Milk, Pumpkin spice sauce: Sugar, Condensed Skim Milk, Pumpkin Puree, Contains 2% Or Less Of Fruit And Vegetable Juice For Color, Natural Flavours, Annatto, Salt, Potassium Sorbate.
- Brewed Espresso, Whipped Cream: Cream (Cream, Milk, Mono And Diglycerides, Carrageenan), Vanilla Syrup (Sugar, Natural Flavors, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid).
- Pumpkin Spice Topping: Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Clove, Sulfiting Agents.
In the year 2015, Starbucks announced that their Pumpkin Spice Latte would undergo a change of recipe to include real pumpkin and remove artificial colours.
Sales of the product:
Starbucks has sold more than 200 million Spice Lattes over the last 11 years, generating revenue at a rate of at least $80 million a year in its most recent seasons. As noticed in an article published in Forbes magazine, “products that are available only for a limited time have a kind of built-in marketing that can grow in impact over time”.
Launch of the product in this season:
The wait is over very soon, your favourite product Pumpkin Spice Latte by Starbucks has returned officially in the menu. The seasonal product is being launched in autumn 2017. The product was officially launched on 1st September 2017. However, Starbucks has been pretty secretive about when its signature PSL would actually be making it to our local baristas.
Social media constraints:
One of the baristas of the Starbucks, leaked on the Reddit that the pumpkin spice flavoured syrup has arrived in stores. This means that many baristas already dread the season’s arrivals. They titled “It’s coming. God help us all”. The social media is now filled with many happy customers snagging the original fall-flavoured latte to be launched under few days.
Starbucks summoned the product via the Facebook Live, not only this the drink has proved so popular among coffee lovers that it even has its own Twitter feed @TheRealPSL. Starbucks took to its Twitter account to announce the comeback of the product available in this year.
Product in India:
There are in total 97 stores of Starbucks in India till the year 2017. The Starbucks came up in India in a joint venture with Tata Global Beverages with the ratio of 50:50. Now it is known as Tata Starbucks Private Limited. Starbucks “A TATA Alliance” recently announced their new and unique product this season namely Pumpkin Spice Latte which is served hot or cold.
Starbucks proudly launched other new products with the pumpkin based flavour- Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin or Pumpkin Spice Pie as customers most favourite seasonal beverage in India. Such offerings are generally found in India during the month September and October only.
